Historic Downtown
The city has worked hard to preserve its downtown and one can spend many a pleasant hour going from store to store and there is no problem when one gets hungry because there are also several fine restaurants located in the downtown area.

Attraction

Princess Theatre
The Princess Theatre is truly the crown jewel of downtown Decatur. One would have a hard time imagining that the building was originally a livery stable. In 1919, it was turned into a 1,500 seat theatre that hosted entertainment of all types from silent screen movies to vaudeville acts. The theatre received a face lift in 1940 and the marquee was added, that at the time was the tallest in the state. The theatre now plays host to numerous local productions throughout the year. If you can catch a show there, by all means do.

Old State Bank Building
This pre-Greek Revival Building is the oldest standing building in the city of Decatur. Opened as the State Bank in 1833, it was one of only four buildings in the city to survive the War Between the States. The Civil War Walking Tour (maps of which can be picked up at the Chamber of Commerce) begin at this building.
