A visit to Tokyo and Kyoto

Quick Tips:

Take the Subways, less expensive than cabs.
Take the Bullet (Shinkasen) Train to Kyoto, but get Rail Pass before you enter the country.
Do not eat in hotels, ask the concierge for a good reasonable place to eat or go to a big departement store, they are likely to have many inexpensive, but good, restaurants inside.
Do not be surprised if very few Japanese people speak English, but there's always someone who can help.
Cars drive on the left and do the same for stairs, sidewalks, etc.
The Japanese people are wonderful.

Best Way To Get Around:

Don't miss Kyoto and the 1/2 day tour to Nara.
In Nara don't miss the giant Budha at the Nara Deer Park.
In Kyoto take a couple of city/site tours.

The accomodations at the Tokyo Hilton were very nice, the room was small compared to American Standards, but the service and the location were GREAT!

In Kyoto, we stayed at the Miyaka (sp?) and it was wonderful. The room was large, the bath had a bidet, and the staff just couldn't do enough for their guests. The hotel had shuttle to the Main Train Terminal and was also convenient to the subway.
By the way, the Main Train Terminal in Kyoto had Hotels, Restaurants, and lots of shopping at your finger tips.
