Trattoria Dopo Teatro

We went to Trattoria Dopo Teatro for a pre-theater meal on Wednesday night. The food was delicious (especially the homemade pastas and fish special). The atmosphere was fantastic. All in all, delicious food, friendly staff, and a beautiful, relaxing atmosphere. The restaurant's interior garden is breathtaking.

Scruffy Duffy's

Not only is it the best sports bar to be found in Manhattan, it is also the pinnacle of watering holes this side of the Atlantic. My friends and I all agree that Scruffy's is without question the nearest thing you will find to an Irish "fun" atmospheric bar in NY. We all have not had so much "craic" in any other bar.

The staff are all Irish (even the American ones) and the service will not be equalled elsewhere. The food is good, the music is great, and the customers who do come in are as friendly as any bar that I have been in back home. I enjoyed everyday I had in Scruffy D's.

Madame Tussauds

It costs $25, which I thought was a bit much for not too much. It was pretty cool, but just didn't seem like a lot to me. They also didn't have a whole lot of celebrities I would have liked to see. On the plus side they do allow you to take pictures, though there were none I wanted to take.

The New York Skyride

Attraction | "New York Skyride"

We visited the Empire State Building and decided on the combination ticket which includes a skyride. The observatory is on the 86th floor (not the 102nd floor at the top) and had a good view. The World Trade Center view used to be much better but more expensive. The kids loved the skyride (no surprise) and I was OK with it. This is a flight simulator, "piloted" by James Doohan (better known as Scotty, from the old "Star Trek") and Yakov Smirnoff. Good for kids.

New York Aquarium

You will be shocked at how great this aquarium is. People live here for years and don't even know that NYC has an aquarium--let alone one as large as this. Maybe if it was still down at the Battery (where it was for years, before moving out to Coney) they would.

The attractions are top-notch; some of the more well-known are the sea lions, who frolic outdoors in a man-made "sea cliff" with views of the boardwalk, and the famously "gay" penguins. (Ask an attendant, they'll know what you're talking about). Plus, unlike some other aquariums, this one is literally yards away from an actual ocean. Once you're done looking at the fishes you can go swim with them.

Circle Line

Attraction | "Circle Line Statue of Liberty Ferry"

Quote:

The interior of the statue and the museum and monument at its base are still closed for security purposes. Visitors are now allowed back on Liberty Island, but are advised to arrive an hour early due to screening procedures.

This site is still one of the most amazing on earth.
