A March 2003 trip to Sedona by JANET S

Quote: I never really liked the desert: why would anyone want to go there? A week in this resort town changed my mind: why would anyone want to leave?

Best Things Nearby:The Red rocks, the vortexes, the crystal blue sky. High end shopping for the really big spender or high end looking if you aren't.Best Things About the Resort:The timeshare is away from Sedona. It is very quiet and the views are marvelous. The activities desk can keep you busy for an entire week if you choose to camp out at the resort. Resort Experience:The units are 2 BR with a lockoff feature. Both "halves" of the unit are adequate for a small family. Combining the "halves" make a vacation home for up to 8. Total square footage was quoted at 1100 sq feet. All units, which are classified as a junior or a master suite, have a kitchen are...Read More

The Red Planet diner was a fun place to eat. As you entered the diner, you are greeted by a sign that indicates: Welcome Earthlings! The diner is just that: it is not elegant surroundings, fancy waiters or fancy menus. It is all-American eating. The menu ranges from Japanese noodle bowls, to HUGE baked potatoes (as a main course), to meatloaf or prime rib(on Saturday nights). The portions are large and the prices are reasonable. The selections that we tried were all very good. The dinner selections feature a Solar Salad that is excellent. It comes with a vinagrette dressing, gorgonzola cheese and walnuts. The greens are fresh and tender (no iceberg lettuce here!) and the cheese and nut c...Read More

A full Italian menu is featured at this family run restaurant. The staff is attentive, polite and friendly. It is obvious that they enjoy serving their guests. We were treated to live music during dinner which added to the atmosphere. The food at this restaurant was very good. The restaurant features several daily specials. The evening we went the specials were a grilled salmon with capers and a seafood fettucini. The regular menu had several veal, seafood and chicken dishes as well as pasta. The dinners came with a dinner salad, fresh vegetables and new potatoes. The before dinner bread was crusty and hot: served with the traditional oil and garlic mixture. Each dish we tried was very good. The...Read More

This chapel built into the hillside is an architectual piece of history. It was built to blend into the hillside and look out over the area and the awe inspiring red rocks. A Frank Lloyd Wright student/protege designed the building. Keep in mind, this is a Catholic church, and is a house of worship. You can go there to look around or to come in to light a candle or pray. Although there are many people around, most are respectful of the purpose of the place and walk about quietly. The church has a sense of peace that encourages people of all faiths to sit a bit and contemplate. The basement of the building houses a small gift shop, with primarily religous items. There are no taxes on the p...Read More

Pink Jeep tours is the oldest offroad adventure company in Sedona. The Pink Jeeps have been traversing the Coconina Forest since 1959. It is impossible to miss them if you go uptown Sedona. The jeeps are all painted Pepto Bismol pink! The jeep tours range from a fairly calm trip to the Indian ruins to the trip we chose into Diamond Gulch. This trip is not for the weak of back -- it is intended to bounce you around and teach you that certain areas really should be covered on foot! The jeep tour starts off sedately enough travelling through downtown Sedona onto the side streets that take you to Boynton Canyon. The offroad adventure begins here. To begin with, the road is merely unpaved, ...Read More
