Athens, specifically the Plaka, is a very nice city and one not to be missed. After all, it is where democracy started and the architecture is amazing.

We were in constant discussion with this hotel via email before going. We requested a top floor room and we got it. I could sit in the doorway on the rooftop and look straight at the acropolis. Visit their website and the picture is the exact view from the roof/fourth floor. It was very clean and included a good continential breakfast of yogurt, cereal, and breads. A good start till you find a nice lunch spot. Although it is not in the Plaka, it was only four easy walking blocks from there, and we felt it was really worth it!

Central Market
This is not so much a restaurant, but a huge market to get every type of food you could want. It is several blocks square, selling fruits, veggies, cheeses, olives, nuts, meats, seafood, eggs, beans, everything! It is utterly amazing and something to see. The prices are unbelievable and we wished we had had a kitchen so we could cook with some of the great foods. If you are staying in a timeshare or a spot with partial kitchen, stop here for your groceries. Or if not, go by for the viewing and to get some fresh berries or olives or something you can snack on while you walk.

AcropolisBest of IgoUgo

Story/Tip

We happened to hit some kind of holiday in Athens when we went to the Acropolis on Monday, so we got in for free. We went fairly early, and that is probably best as the crowds show up. It is hard to get pictures of the buildings without a ton of other people in them, so arriving early might help you get some pictures without other tourists.

Bring water with you. The heat in early June was hot, but I can see it being much worse in July or August.

Otherwise, just walk around and marvel at the Acropolis and the buildings that are on the acropolis. It is very interesting, kind of mystical to me in that I've wanted to go for a very long time. The buildings are being reworked and preserved, which is really great to see.

The view of the city of Athens is unbelievable from the acropolis as well. It is so interesting to see the city sprawl, all the way to the ocean, which you can see from up here, even though it's probably 20+ miles away.

This was a great place and we are very glad to have spent the time walking up. Be careful as the paths were all dirt when we went, so wear sensible shoes.
