Pompano Paradise

A March 2003 trip to Pompano Beach by guanacay37

Pompano Beach was a perfect mid-March escape from the 2 feet of snow in southern Connecticut. The weather was gorgeous, an average temperature 85 degrees and water temp of a warm 79 degrees! Despite warnings of "wild spring breakers," we had no troubles there. Pompano and Lauderdale are wonderful places to kick-back and get some much needed sunshine.

Best Things Nearby:
The best thing about this timeshare was being only 15 miles from Ft. Lauderdale airport and an easy trip down A1A to get there (thus avoiding Rte. 95!)Lots of fine restaurants to chose from at reasonable prices.

Best Things About the Resort:
We enjoyed the laid back atmosphere of Sea Gardens - plenty of scheduled activities either free or at reasonable prices, yet not a frenzied atmosphere. It was very easy to just kickback and enjoy the pools and beach.

Resort Experience:
We were very pleased to see the size of the one bedroom unit we were assigned to. It had an eat-in kitchen with stove and microwave, a dining area and a spacious living room. The bedroom and bath were located down the hall, with washer/dryer in the unit. Access to the balcony was available from both the living room and bedroom. The unit had 2 TVs and a stereo. There was no charge for use of the phone or in-room safe - what a treat!

We were on the 4th floor overlooking beautiful gardens located along a path between the two heated pools. There were two hot tubs, a wonderful well-equipped exercise room in a nearby building, and a lovely outdoor patio by the Tiki Hut bar where many activities were held.

We were dubious at first about having to cross A1A to get to the beach (thinking of A1A in Daytona); however it was never a problem. Sea Gardens is located in a more residential area and there are only the two lanes to cross. It would not be a problem for older children to go back and forth as well. You could also sit poolside by the beach and enjoy the ocean breeze.

There were daily activities for adults, spring breakers and children. When there was a fee, it was very reasonable unlike other timeshares we've been to where families have to think twice about participating. My husband and son enjoyed the game room - a nice clean one, very spacious and with pool tables and your standard video games.

I'd certainly recommend this resort for both families and couples. Many families also used amenities at sister resorts nearby. Everything was clean and in top condition. Staff was extremely helpful. Next time we'd bring the golf clubs as they had many courses with reduced greens fees for timeshare residents.

Shooters Waterfront Cafe USABest of IgoUgo

Restaurant | "Shooters Watefront Cafe USA"

Shooters sits directly on the intercoastal waterway with water taxi service available from Ft. Lauderdale. You can also dock your own boat. Shooters is a huge restaurant with both indoor and outdoor dining and an enormous bar for socializing with friends.

During the week they have 2-for-1 drinks from 4-7pm and $9.99 early bird specials until 6pm. The early bird was a great deal--large portions including salad and coffee. The menu is varied and large with an equally appetizing lunch menu.

Vacation means outside, waterfront dining and I can't think of a better place to be. We'll definitely put this on our visit again list for good, reasonable dining.

Butterfly WorldBest of IgoUgo

Attraction

Butterfly World is a series of fenced-in gardens with a wide variety of butterflies, hummingbirds, and flowers at each turn. You can take your time on a self-guided tour and re-enter favorite parts at your leisure. Don't forget your camera!

My 15-year-old son was not thrilled when told of where we were headed, however, even he enjoyed the day. Plan on about 2 hours plus to explore the place. It is handicapped accessible and discount coupons are available in all the guide books.
