Arriving in Oxford was a dream come true for my two cousins and me. The view of the spired skyline from the window of our bus was so beautiful.

Oxford is a city built around an ancient university. Medieval and renaissance buildings are everywhere. The view of the colleges along the southern edge of the city is awesome from Christ Church Meadows. My daily walks thru the meadows were wonderful.

Quick Tips:

Guided walking or open bus tours are available and are recommended to get the 'lay of the land'. The 'Oxford Story' tells of the university's history.

Best Way To Get Around:

We found walking to be convenient, weather permitting. Remember to take your umbrella wherever you go. Public transportation and taxis are also available. We found the taxi drivers friendly and helpful.

Hotel

Green Gables was located about 1 mile from central Oxford. We requested a room for three and were able to get one. However, our room faced a busy, noisy street. Closet space was at a premium and the bathroom was very small. The hosts were helpful and pleasant and the breakfast were adequate.

The tomato/basil pasta dinner was very good. Also consumed with great gusto was the delicious bread. The meal was topped off with one of their heavenly desserts.

Blenheim Palace
Two days of touring with this group took us to Blenheim Palace, the North Cotswolds, Stratford-upon-Avon and Warwick Castle. Extended stops at each location allowed for 'free time' to explore and photograph the area. Suggestions were made for lunch - mostly pubs which have fantastic food.

Attraction

View from Christs Church Meadows
Every morning at 6:00 a.m. I left my cozy B&B and took a long walk along the river or thru the meadows. The fresh air and lovely scenery set the tone for my day. You can see the sculling teams practice, enjoy watching the swans and ducks tend their young, smell the flowers blooming everywhere and view the spires of the colleges over the tops of the trees. This was the best part of my day and I would highly recommend the experience.

Quiet Morning Walks
Thames (Isis) River & Christ Church Meadows Oxford, England OX1 1DP

After a very busy day touring the area I happened to pass by Christ Church around 6:00 p.m.just in time to sit in and join the Evensong Service. What a wonderful way to end the day. The atmosphere of the 13th century cathedral was inspiring and the music was lovely.
