Each one in our family agrees that the excitement builds as we prepare to return to our little corner of Paradise colored with aqua blue waters, white soft sand and lush green foliage. We leave behind our stressed, hurried lifestyles for a time of renewal in each other and in our connecttion to the earth, wind, water and sky. Our days consist of creative ways we can bond closer to each other while we play in and under the water. Boating affords us ways to picnic on beaches no one else is on, shelling, visiting other islands (cays) to explore cultural diversities of lifestyles and to scuba in crystal clear waters abounding with curious brightly colored tropical fish moving through and around coral landscapes. On other days we love laying back on the soft white sand, soaking up the warm rays of the sun and being kissed by the gentle breezes. Our eyes are continually imprinting pictures in our memories of waves lapping at the shore, the rush of the blue in the sky toward a distant meeting place to the blue in the water and our loved ones smiling as they reach to hug us.

Our memories include a myriad of scuba trips, hunting for lobster, snorkeling, island hopping by rental boat, shelling, picnicking on quiet beaches, visiting the marina swim-up bar, and meeting and hanging out with the yacht people. One daughter honeymooned there and another attended with college buddies. Oh, and we love the beautiful beach view by day and also by night under the stars. We still have a towel our daughter won on Bahamian night doing the limbo. Chris the manager is a great guy. The resort conducts an owners meeting where a list of activities is announced either by the service providers themselves or the resort, such as fishing trips, a gambling flight to Nassau, or boat charters to other islands. The other resort on the island is a great place to visit for the beach (one of the world’s prettiest) and golf. You can reach the other resort by rental car or by boat. The beauty of the beach is key for this quiet family retreat. Call the resort for current activities, which usually include a Bahamian music and food night.

Quick Tips:

The resort provides free transport to the grocery store but it is also a pleasant walk. Groceries are priced higher, but we found that many items are reasonable. There was a wholesale soft drink business that delivered to the resort. Bahamians fish for and sell fresh grouper and conch. There are a few excellent restaurants and family bakeries (ah fresh baked bread with healthy New Zealand butter). Near the resort is a Kentucky Fried Chicken and a pizza place, a liquor store with a variety bottled beer and liquors. Lobster season begins in August so that brings the opportunity to enjoy fresh lobster. Many people bring in food in sealed containers and we have even seen meat under ice at the airport arrival gate. Just remember to check with your airline for baggage limits. A lot of clothes are not necessary but an extra swimsuit or two is a good idea.

Best Way To Get Around:

Most activities are within walking distance. A rental car could be useful for a full-island drive around (remember here you drive on the left-hand side of the road). Boat rentals are available for island hopping or a romantic picnic on one of the many uninhabited beaches. A ferry runs between Abaco and other islands. Bicycles and motor scooters can be rented too.
Best Things Nearby:
Beach, marinas, snorkeling, scuba, Hopetown Cay, Green Turtle Cay, Guana Cay, and golf 25 miles away.

Best Things About the Resort:
Lush tropical setting on the ocean, secluded and quiet, newly refurbished, outdoor pool, tennis, Bahamian night with music and Bahamian food; several nearby islands to visit with other activities.

Resort Experience:
White sand and aqua blue waters on a quiet family island. Trips to other islands by charter or ferry or rental boat. Two fine restraunts nearby. Golf and one of worlds most beautiful beaches 25 miles away. A safe island with friendly people. Great for honeymooners, families, or seniors.

This hotel was newly refurbished with two-bedrooms, two-bathrooms, tiled floors, tiled baths, custom wood kitchen cabinets, and sleeps six people privately. The buildings are one or two story--no cement city here. Grounds are lush green and flowering. On the beach is the visual experience above most others, the second would be the top of the hill for the panoramic view, third would be looking down on the manicured, landscaped lawn, pool, and courtyard.

Underwater world is a total different and exhilarating experience. The tropical fish come in an array of vibrant colors and sizes. The coral formations in the preserves make a seascape of spires, plateaus, and forests. Caves, shipwrecks, and night diving get the adrenaline pumping as the guide leads you through dark and murky areas. During the night dive you will see florescent creatures abounding in the soft glow of the hand held lights you carry. The Hole in the Ocean dive we have yet to do.
