We recently stayed at the Lowry Hotel in Manchester England. It is the only five-star hotel in Manchester and it sits in the banks of the river.

As we arrived, a doorman approached and opened the door for us and escorted us to the rather lavish reception area. Our check-in was very quick, efficient, and polite! After checking-in, another man took us up to our room and opened the door for us and proceeded to show us around the room and tell us where everything was. It was a very nice touch.

The room itself was very large, with a humongous, 2m-wide bed. There was a table and chairs, chaise lounge, a long dressing table, mini stereo system, TV, etc. There was a separate walk-in wardrobe area and a tea and coffee area. The mini bar was huge and included fresh milk. The bathroom is marble and large. There is a bath, power shower, vanity area, toilet, and bidet. You also get a lovely white fluffy dressing gown along with an abundance of fluffy towels.

We went out in the evening and returned to find the bed turned down, soft music playing, and dimmed lights -- it was very romantic.

We decided to have breakfast in our room (no extra cost); we were given a menu to choose from and had to leave it outside our door at night. The breakfast menu was very extensive, with cereals; muffins; croissants; toast; bagels; full English; continental; and lots of drinks choices such as fruit juices, different teas, and coffees, etc. You could select the time of delivery.

Our breakfast arrived at exactly the time we ordered it and came on a large, heated table, with the hot food inside the heater and all the best cutlery and napkins, etc, laid out on top. The porter extended the ends and it turned into a breakfast table -- impressive.

You can tell I don't stay in five star hotels often! We were more than impressed with the service and quality of the hotel. However the downside is the price. Rooms start at £200 per night. I booked this as a present to my husband and included tickets for a Manchester United game, so it was nice as a treat, bit I don't think we will be able to afford to stay here again!
