Flagstaff 2000

An August 2000 trip to Flagstaff by TNace

This was a fun trip; the kids enjoyed the Grand Canyon, Sedona, the painted desert, the petrified forest, Hoover Dam, and the other many sites we visited. They were facinated by the various wildlife and the cactus.

Overview

Grand Canyon, Jeep tour of Sedona, all the canyons, old volcano, the space observatory, Petrified Forest, and Painted Desert. Watching a thunderstorn roll in over the Grand Canyon was really cool - it was a short one, and right after we saw a waterfall start down below.

Quick Tips:

It's hot in the summer. They say it's a dry heat, but Hot is Hot. Bring plenty to drink during your excursions. The Jeep tours in Sedona are a must. Also we did a guided tour to the Grand Canyon, which was nice but I think next time we'll do it on our own.

Best Way To Get Around:

Rent a car and be prepared to do a lot of walking.

What more can I say? Awesome. When the kids get older I'd like to return and do either the Mule trip down or do the rafting.

Interesting, kids liked it a lot. This is pretty close to Flagstaff too. If you're with kids you should try to see this. Once again, especially during the summer, bring water to drink, as there's not as much walking as some of the other places, but it's hot.

This was pretty cool. Be prepared to do some walking and give yourself a little time to see the ruins as well. We enjoyed it even though my daughter didn't like walking up the mountain much.

This is a smaller canyon, but there is still a little hiking. It has interesting sites. Like the others in the area, it has its own special nature. The kids enjoyed it.
