Jerusalem - An unforgettable city

An October 1994 trip to Jerusalem by Lori Lynn

Be sure to visit all of the religious sites, and the earlier is better. Old Jerusalem is divided into four quarters and is easy to navigate using the tourist maps. The people of all persuasions are fantastic. A feast for the palate, eyes, and nose! When shopping, haggling is expected!

They have a main hotel and an older annex. The older annex is great if you are on a budget. We had made our reservations for the main hotel - the accommodations were very nice in a modern way. The courtyard terrace restaurant was pleasant and the breakfast buffet - included in the room price - was well appointed. The hotel is a short walk to Old Jerusalem.

Attraction | "The Wailing Wall"

Those who visit the Wailing Wall, even as tourists, are struck by the view of the devout Jews at their devotions at the base of a wall that also supports one of the most holy sites of Islam - the Dome of the Rock. Ascending the steps into the Jewish quarter yields a breathtaking overview of the square and the mosque enclave.

Explore the Jewish quarter and you will find excavations of the old city and many hidden museums. Be aware that if you are visiting on a Friday/Saturday that everything will be shut tight for Shabbat.
