Miller Crockett House Bed & BreakfastBest of IgoUgo

Hotel | "Miller-Crockett House"

The Miller-Crockett house, an example of "New Orleans Victorian"-style (according to the website) was built in 1888; visit their website for more information on the background of the house.

The current owner is great--she's obviously devoted to the house and is very personable and easy to chat with.

We stayed in "Caroline's Room," a lovely and simply decorated room in the main house. It has a comfortable queen-sized, iron bed. The bathroom (newly remodeled) is spacious with a large shower. A door in the bathroom opens onto a private deck that leads into the backyard.

The house sits on an acre and a half, with wonderful views of the downtown skyline across Town Lake. Multiple huge old oak trees give ample shade; one has a swing and two others support a (very comfortable) hammock.

Although we didn't take advantage of the fact, Congress Avenue is just a short block or two away, with a number of good restaurants and the Continental Club (a blues club) within walking distance. Austin's downtown areas (6th St., Warehouse district) are a short taxi or car ride across Town Lake.

Breakfasts were tasty and filling and consisted of an egg dish/souffle, English muffins, fruit, and meat (sausage when we were there). They weren't, however, quite as good as we have had at some B&Bs.

Although we enjoyed our stay and could happily recommend this B&B, we weren't so wowed that we haven't tried other B&Bs since.
