Best Things Nearby:
Club is conveniently located in Midtown.
Central Park is 3 blocks away. Carnegie Hall is across the street. You can see Time Square outside the door. Time Square along with theatres are about a 10-15 min walk away.
There are both expensive and reasonable priced restaurants, cafes and delis right outside the door. We saw famous people at a resturant across the street. Soup Nazi is couple of blocks away.
The Resort is conveniently located near subway connections, but when traveling with our Mothers we used taxis. It is not so bad when you split the taxi 4 ways. You can get a 7 day metro card to use on the subway for $17.
Best Things About the Resort:
Call the front desk a few weeks before you go and ask for a corner room with a view of Central Park. We got a lovely room with a view towards Central Park and east midtown. With the kitchenette available in our suite, we were able take home and eat several meals off of the large servings that we got in the restaurants. When we heard a blizzard was expected the next day, we stocked up the fridge with stuff from a local deli/bakery.
With four women trying to get ready for the days adventures and plays, we needed the two bathrooms. They provided huge terry robes for everyone.
Resort Experience:
Are you asking how I was able to manage a NYC exchange? It is like winning the lottery.
I was told by RCI at booking that I must go out and get a lottery ticket because I must be extremely lucky. I was to get a one bedroom, two bath, corner suite with a market value of $800/night. After I made my exchange, I received a letter about attending a tour of the Manhattan Club for prospective new owners. Out of curiosity I took the time to see the presentation and got some ideas as to why I might have gotten my exchange to the Manhattan Club.
1. You have to be flexible as to your travel time. Ask for anytime in the next year and be flexible enough to except a Jan - March week or July /August. I was told that this is one timeshare where the owners rarely exchange. The owners usually do not request the time period listed above, so the resort opens it up to only so many exchanges and potential new owners during this time period. It may get harder when all the units get sold.
2. The other trick I heard at the presentation was your timeshare exchange is rated according to the type of timeshare/resort (gold crown), location (urban), and number of units available at that location for exchange into that location (good when only a few units are available near a destination that is in demand like NYC, San Francisco, not Orlando).
Naively lucky, several years ago I purchased an urban Gold Crown Resort timeshare in Nashville, TN so it seems I hit points #1 and #2 to get into some good exchanges in Hawaii, NYC, and San Francisco.
You still have a chance to get into the Manhattan Club because I found out that I will not be allowed to exchange into the Manhattan Club again for four years.
Resort does not have any activities or package deals for tours, plays, or dinners, but the concierge was extremly helpful.
