Quote: This was my first trip back to my homeland since 1986. It was especially memorable since I got to take my wife and 6-year-old son along with me. Also in tow was my mother our ever-ready baby sitter.

After picking up our rental car at the Glasgow airport we made our way into town for 3 days of sight seeing and a visit with the local clan members. The following Sunday morning we headed north to the small village of Aberfoyle, which was our home base for the next 2 weeks. Aberfoyle is located about 2 hours north of Glasgow in the Trossachs Region. Lots of shimmering lochs, craggy mountain tops and deep cut forest filled glens. Quick Tips: A great way to sight see while in Glasgow I recommend the open-top double decked bus. We picked 1 up at George’s Square and the route covered all the well-known tourist spots. Don’t forget this service is usually offered in most of the cities in the U...Read More

Eager to try hiking the highlands my wife and I made some inquires during one of our many evening visits to the “Forth Inn,” a local Hotel/Restaurant/Pub located on Main Street, Aberfoyle. This climb was rather challenging at times and is not for the average couch potato. Never-the-less, after some huffing and puffing we made it to the top. The view was breath taking! We enjoyed this so much that we are planning to take a weeklong hiking trip, in Scotland, in the near...Read More

Story/Tip

Urquhart Castle Photo, Aberfoyle, Scotland

To come to the UK and not visit at least 1 castle would be a sin, so we took in several. It's pretty hard not to see castles, given the country’s past. Castles seem to pop up with every bend in the road; many are in the state of ruin thanks in part to Oliver Cromwell and his Roundheads. This was one of Sean’s favorite adventures. We actually saw more then the number of photos shown. My wife Susan fell in love with Dunnotter Castle located on the North Seacoast not far from Stonehaven.
