The capital of Namibia is Windhoek. The people where described by one tourist as friendly and welcoming. Windhoek is clean and the fresh air, the nightskies are just as beautiful.

Driving on our main roads throughout the country is all well managed and good.

The Etoscha pan is the first place I would go. All the WILD animals you can see are there. The Park is a National Wild Park and camping will give you the experience of Namibia you've always wanted.

In the Northwest corner of Namibia we have the 'Damaraland'. Here you have vast open areas and huge mountains, surrounded by nothing more than Nature and you. Dirt roads are the only thing that keep you on track and native people will sell small things they make themselves.

In the Caprivi - the Northeast - you will see green trees and a river that will never stop flowing. Travel by boat or by car, never by foot in these areas - Crocodiles. The south of Namibia has the Namib Naukluft Park. Walk through our own Canyon.

Best Way To Get Around:

Renting a motorvehicle is possible. Taking a lift with somebody is NEVER a good idea here - DO NOT take a LIFT with anybody !
Do not try to ask for a taxi - rather ask your Hotel or Bed & Breakfast to come and fetch you or drop you off somewhere. We don't have any General transport buses that you can use in town - only for the people here to get to work and home again. Some of the Hotels have their own transport buses that you can ask to drop you off somewhere.
Walking during the day is in order, but during night it would be a no-no ! Also, during the day you should walk in a group and keep all your stuff close. In town it is always nice to walk trough the shops and buy some things for home. Should you ask for personal touring around the country, we have this all covered. Small groups - big groups and even pensioners. Private people can take you around the country in a 4x4 or you can take big company tours with huge buses. Read Less
