Dubrovnik, Truly Paradise on Earth

A travel journal to Dubrovnik by Big Al

This summer I finally got a chance to fulfill one of my travel dreams....visiting Durbvonik, Croatia. Although it is one of the harder places in Europe to get to, it is by far worth it, and is without a doubt, the most beautiful place I have ever been in Europe.

Walking along Dubrovnik's amazing city walls and staring at the azure waters below is just amazing, something that can't be described.

The city has an amazing amount of outstanding seafood. There is one place where you can literally dine with the sea 10 feet away and against the backdrop of the city walls.

Quick Tips:

Getting there is not the easiest thing, I came in by Ferry from Bari, Italy, on Jadrolinja lines. This ferry is an overnight ferry and it offers a unique opportunity to sleep on the deck overnight. It was great, something I will never forget.

Best Way To Get Around:

Getting around is so easy. You can walk pretty much anywhere, but if you are staying far away from the center, somewhere like Lapad, you may need to take the Bus once in a while. It too is cheap and easy, just hop on and pay on board...

Taxis are a great way to get from the ferry terminal into town, but besides that, relatively unnecessary.

The lady who runs this guesthouse is just amazing. When we first arrived, without a reservation and on a Sunday morning early, she made us breakfast, and gave us tons of brochures and told us where to go in Dubrovnik. She will literally bend over backwords for her guest, be sure to read her guestbook, I have never seen such a complementary thing!!

Wow, well let me start by saying it was my best dining expererience ever. The restaraunt's patio is outside right next to the crashing waves of the Adriatic and the city walls. At night the view is unbelievable.

The food is incredible as well, we started with a bottle of Slovenian Rose Wine, had pate, salads, Filet Mignon, an amazing fruit platter, and top notch service. They actually filled up our glasses each time they started to get low from our wine bottle at our table.

This place is tops for a romantic. You seriously can't beat it for atmosphere anywhere in the world.

Attraction

This is amazing, the whole city is enclosed by walls that were built many centuries ago. The best part is you can walk all along the walls, and see some amazing views from the top. On one side is the lovely sea-side city of Dubrovnik and on the other side is the Adriatic's Azure waters!

Stroll through the old town of Dubrovnik on lazy summer nights and find yourself drifting into another world. The atmosphere here is so relaxed and fun, you will have an amazing time just hanging out. I can't pick my favorite bar or coffee shop, they are all great, be sure to have Kava Sa Smetana (Cofee with whip cream), and Karlovacko Pivo (beer)!
