Overview

I was not very impressed with Amsterdam. Other than the Anne Frank House, the canals and some of the museums, I found it to be a dirty place full a lot of drug hype.

Quick Tips:

Best Way To Get Around:

This hotel was filthy. Our room had cigarette burns on the walls and bedding, bugs in the drapes and lots of mold in the shower. Who would expect this after paying over $150! When I requested another room I was brushed off. On top of the gross conditions the staff was rude. I would only suggest this hotel to my enemies.

Sex MuseumBest of IgoUgo

Attraction | "The Sex Museum"

An extremely unique place, this museum consists of six floors of everything you could think of about sex. There are sexual oriented antiques, fetish photos, sex sculptures and active manikins. I am not kidding, you have to see it to believe it.

Attraction | "Anne Frank House"

Visiting the Anne Frank House was a chilling experience. It is horrible the think that this poor girl had to live in these cramped conditions for over two years, only to be put to death by the Germans. Her story, from her diary gives a detailed description of what her life was like while she was in hiding. There is also a very good exhibit on discrimination. I highly recommend this museum to everyone.

Van Gogh MuseumBest of IgoUgo

Attraction | "Vincent Van Gogh Museum"

I love Van Gogh, but I thought this museum was an overpriced waste of time. It is filled with paintings, drawings, fakes, paintings that look like Van Gogh fakes, and anything that Van Gogh that created on canvas or paper. I'm surprised that they didn't frame his toilet paper.

Save your $9. and spend it on admission to the mush more impressive Rijksmuseum.

The Red Light District is an area where prostitutes display themselves in storefront windows for hire. Believe it or not, it is a popular tourist place, I actually saw families and tour groups passing through the night I was there. The area also had a lot of clubs that perform live sex acts. Try your best to avoid the pushy multi-lingual hustlers who try to persuade you to come and see a show for a good price.
