Hawaiian Vacation

A February 2003 trip to Kauai by TimmyDC

I stayed at the Makai Club at Princeville. The one bedroom units are acceptable. Not high-end, but not a disaster either (i.e. neat and clean, but not luxurious). The weather was a bit changeable on the northside of Kauai, but it's still a relaxing place to hang ones hat!

Hotel

Best Things Nearby:
Hanalai Bay and town had a very nice and relaxed atmosphere.

Best Things About the Resort:
Clean and neat.

Resort Experience:
This is in a gated community near Hanalai Bay and other attractions such as helicopter rides, surfing, golf, and tennis. I liked the list of activities for all to do, like hula lessons or coconut painting.

I was looking for an authentic Hawaiian Luau and asked around and they said this was the place, but now I'm not sure they were on the same wavelength as me. I was looking for one somewhat intimate - real grass skirt hula girls and some fun tribal music. What I got was more mass marketed food and a "show" that was performed concert-style in an ampitheatre. So I was a bit disappointed, but a few "loaded" Mai Tais made up for that. I can't give this luau a strong recommendation, but if your expectations are not high, this is not a bad experience.

Attraction | "Limitless trails for all expertise levels."

The hike had some waterfalls and beautiful vistas. Not too strenuous, but not a stroll in the park either. I did not go as far as the beach because of rain, but I hear the beach is worth hiking to - it would be approximately two miles of hiking. If done in summer or heat, bring some water.
