Myrtle Beach in February

A February 2003 trip to Myrtle Beach by rosemaryly

Sands Beach Club Resort

Hotel | "Sands Beach Club"

Best Things Nearby:It's within walking distance of the little beach shops. Walmart is within 3 miles, as are the Tanger factory outlets, Kroger's food store and restaurant row for dining. Best Things About the Resort:The rooms are spacious, very clean, and the property is well-maintained. Pools are indoor and outdoor. There is a bar with happy hour on premises and a full-service dining room. Resort Experience:All Phase II (2BR) units are waterfront. All Phase I (1BR) units are oceanview. Phase I is a separate building "behind" the Phase II building, but the design allows a water view from all the units' balconies. Phase II is 10 floors high, and directly ocean...Read More

Tony's Italian Restaurant

Restaurant | "Tony's Ittalian Restaurant"

A busy, busy place. The food is excellent. I always order a pasta dish when I am here, but meat dishes are also available. Seating is prompt, service is great, and the food is truly great Italian fare. It's a good place to take children as the atmosphere is casual.

Martinis Continental Dining

Restaurant | "Martini's"

The restaurant is on the elegant side for this area. We were promptly seated, though we did not have reservations. The seating is comfortable and roomy. The service was excellent. The menu encompassed all types of entrees, from seafood to meat dishes to pasta plates.

We dined on the Yellowfin tuna and the filet mignon. Both were excellent, tasty, very well-presented, and appropriate in size. The cheesecake and the bread pudding were our dessert choices. The cheesecake was very light and served with a dollop of homemade whipped cream. My dinner companion ate every bit of the bread pudding, despite saying it was "too much," and he said it was very, very good.

Beaches

Attraction | "THE BEACH OUTSIDE MY DOOR"

Quote:
The beach has been reworked and "resanded" over the past few years. What was once becoming a very short beach due to erosion is now a nice, big, white sandy beach. The area was dredged a few years ago, and it is still magnificent. You can sit on the deck and frequently watch the dolphins swim by. It is peaceful, well maintained, and lovely.

Myrtle Beach Factory Outlet Stores

Attraction | "Tangers Factory Outlets"

Quote:
This group of stores opened within the last year. They have a Coach store, Old Navy Outlet, Vanity Fair, and many others (you can tell which ones I hit first). In addition to their regular discounts, the stores have additional discounts from the booklet available ($5) at the customer service desk, which is located in the food court. Then, it being President's Day weekend, there were more great bargains and sidewalk sales going on. Much of the mall is canopy covered so that when it rains you can still move about without you or your purchases getting soaked.

Dunes Cinema VIII

Attraction | "Dune Coastal Movie Theater"

Quote:
I found a discount movie theater! Great deal. On the weekends the rate for all seats is $3 and only $1 for children 12 and under. During the week, the adult price is $1 all seats, children the same price. The movies are not the brand new releases, but rather movies released a month or two prior. The theater is clean, the seats comfortable. You can't go wrong if there is a movie playing that you want to see. They do not seem to advertise, so call them at 449-7733 and you can get a recording of the rates, the current moviesm, and the times they are playing.

I can't believe how quickly the week went. The weather was poor early on, however, I was not in NY shoveling my way out of the storm of the decade, so how bad could it be? It was quite cold the first few days (in the 30s) so I decided not to torture myself by trying to take walks. I could do that at home. So what did I do, alone, with not-nice weather? I hit the outlets, I hit the movies, and I actually looked at some other timeshare communities that I was considering making a purchase at. I had most of my meals in the unit. The kitchen is all full-size appliances and there is nothing I could not make (or reheat in the microwave). When the weather cleared and moved to the 50s, I walked...Read More
