A January 2003 trip to Cocoa Beach by karenkayp

Quote: The Resort at Cocoa Beach is a great place, as it has access directly onto the beach. We watched the Space Shuttle launch, visited Kennedy Space Center, shopped at Old Cocoa Village, went on the Sterling Casino cruise ship, drove up to Sainte Augustine for a day, and found two very good restaurants.

Best Things Nearby:The beach, Jetty Park, Kennedy Space Center, Cocoa Village.Best Things About the Resort:Very spacious and clean, excellent and helpful activity staff, great activities for young and old.Resort Experience:We arrived early and were not able to get into our room until one-half hour before the check-in time on our registration. They did allow us to register so we didn't have to wait in line and just picked up our keys at the desk. Our room was a two-bedroom, two bath unit. We wanted a two-bedroom unit with the second bedroom with a double or queen. According to the front desk they do not have any in the house! They were very helpful and helped u...Read More

We asked at our timeshare "what place has the best fresh seafood around?" Grills is a unique waterfront eating establishment with original cuisine. Grills is in the middle of Sunrise Marina, which is located just one hour east of Orlando on the Space Coast in Port Canaveral. They claim to have "the finest quality local fish prepared in the healthiest and most delicious process available - marinating and grilling."And we were not disappointed at Grills! Several of our party had the catch of day, which was Mahi Mahi - it was superb! Sometimes Mahi Mahi can be dry if prepared wrong, but they definitely know how to bring out the flavor and keep it from being dry. I had the bacon-wr...Read More

Roberto's Little Havana

Roberto's Little Havana Restaurant is easy to find because it is right on Atlanta Avenue, just south of the Public Library. Although the outside appearance isn't the best, the atmosphere and cleanliness of the inside is very appealing. According to our source of recommendation, the locals frequent this restaurant and we could see why. The hostess and waitress were very friendly and went the extra mile to make us feel comfortable, and were very helpful in explaining their Cuban dishes.I had the Camarones Alajillo, which is shrimp sauteed in garlic, onion, green pepers, olive oil, and spices. This was served with yellow rice, black bean soup, and plantanos (a small-like banana). My husband had...Read More

Jetty Park is located in the heart of Port Canaveral and minutes from Kennedy Space Center. It is less than an hour drive from Orlando and is the ideal spot to watch space shuttle and rocket launches, or some of the world's largest cruise ships leave port. The view is excellent and the park itself has a lot to offer while waiting for or after a launch. The entrance fee is only $3/day per car. They have a store, a bait shop, and a snack bar. The 1500 foot pier provides for both day and night fishing. Fish the deep channel or cast for snook near the rocks on the Jetty side. Cleaning tables, running water, and lighting are featured throughout the pier. The pure white beach front is easily acces...Read More

Cocoa Village

Historic Cocoa Village is located in old, restored downtown Cocoa, Florida and features a potpourri of unique shops, galleries, and restaurants. One shop that we really enjoyed was The Country Craft Corner, where they have unique crafts and gifts, wood items, and cards. The Village Gourmet Shop is a gourmet gift shop with baskets, fine wines, coffees, teas, gourmet foods, kitchen gadgets, dishes, cookbooks, aprons, Italian glasses, and many more gift items for the home. The Strawberry Patch is another store that is an intriguing shop where decorating is an art with Victorian traditional and contemporary accessories. They also have unique flowers vines and berries, and candles of a...Read More
