Relaxing in St. George, Utah

A January 2003 trip to St. George by Moosue

Quote: St. George and the surrounding area is one of the best kept secrets for beautiful scenery, excellent history, good eating places and a relaxing atmosphere. We stayed at the World Mark in St. George which was another wonderful experience.

We have timeshares in Maui, Kauai, the Big Island, and Phoenix. We have also stayed at many different places around the world. The World Mark takes a back seat to none of the places we have visited. Our three bedroom unit was very roomy, clean, and the people running the place were very friendly and didn't try to sell you anything.

We had some of the best New York steak we have ever had. The service was excellent and the main course was so good that we had no room for dessert.

The Claim Jumper was recommended by the people at our timeshare. The menu is very good, but the steaks are their specialty. We had a ribeye steak that was very succulent and juicy. Generous helpings were given to all of us. As evidenced by the crowd, this is a very popular place with good food.

Snow Canyon

Attraction

Quote:
Snow Canyon sits just north of St. George. It is one of the most beautiful little canyons we have seen. Its deep reds, coral pinks, brownish white, and white terrain with the large mountains and cliffs around are just outstanding. Thihs is a state park which was discovered by cowboys trying to find their cattle around at the beginning of last century. There is is a charge of $5 for admission, but it is well worth it.

We discovered that the town of St. George was colonized by Mormons who were sent by Brigham Young. It is called "Dixie" because of its climate. At one time the produce, such as grapes and sugar cane, were more prevalent than most other places in the United States.

Everywhere we went we gained more information about the city and its high and low points from the live tour guides at each spot. We were also directed to Zion National Park while on the town tour. It is very close and at this time of the year you have no crowds to fight with and the trails are easily followed for short or long hikes. We went to Zion and back in one day.

Kanab, Utah

Story/Tip

Quote:
We went to Kanab because we had heard it is known as the western film capital of the west. We found some info about this at the chamber and local museum, but the most exciting part was just hiking around and under the beautiful great cliffs that go for miles around Kanab. Kanab sits almost right in the center of routes to Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon, and Grand Canyon.

Again, this was only a day's trip from St. George, Utah.

St. George, Utah

Story/Tip

Quote:
My wife and I believe that St. George is one of the best kept secrets among the RCI Community. Every morning when we went around the World Mark, we noticed that about 90 percent of the cars parked there were from Utah. Others were from nearby states.

Our friends came down in their motor home and ended up staying with us as well as my cousin and his wife from Missoula, MT. We all felt the same - what a great place to just relax.
