The absolute best thing to do anywhere in Ireland is meander into any neighborhood pub and spend time talking with the locals. Many of the sights we found would have been missed if "Patrick, Maureen, and Paddy" had not informed us of them over a Guinness.

Quick Tips:

Best Way To Get Around:

In the cities, your feet are the best transportation, letting you meander down alleys and streets to find the real Ireland. When venturing out of the city, renting a car is the best option (although the insurance can be pricey). You have not experienced Connor Pass until you have to pull your car pratically up onto the rock ledge to let an oncoming truck by!

The room was very cozy, beautifully decorated in a very Victorian theme. It was rather large with a queen bed and sitting area, as well as a private bath. The townhouse does have parking. We found it easiest to leave our car in their lot and walk downtown. It was a short walk and most of the time we did not even bother with a cab.

It's like staying in a museum, well, actually, you are! The house is open for tours during the day and serves as a bed and breakfast at night. The view alone is worth a stay. The rooms at the front of the house overlook magnificent Bantry Bay. Rooms in the back of the house overlook the "Staircase to the Sky" and the fabulous Italian Garden. Rooms are tastefully decorated and very roomy with private baths and phones in each room. A main TV room serves as the nightly gathering place for all the guests to meet and mingle. A house bar is also available in this room.

Dating from 1600's, Cregg Castle is located in the countryside about 15 minutes drive north from Galway City. I would describe it more as a grand, fortified manor house. Cregg boasts a huge living and dining room, with grand open fireplaces and soaring ceilings. Breakfast is taken at the long dining table, although there are smaller tables for families or couples. The rooms are generally huge, some with four - poster beds. At night, the guests as well as the hosts, gather around the fire for wine, music, and good conversation.

How can you go to Dublin without seeing where the famous brew is made? It's a very enjoyable, yet educational tour. You see the whole process and are then invited to sample some brew. My favorite part was the room showing all the Guinness merchandising posters from over the years. And don't forget the hops store, bring a little home with you!
