Cancun in January

A January 2003 trip to Cancun by General Can

We were in Cancun and Maya Riviera for 2 weeks in January 2003, most days were very windy and cool. I needed my spring jacket all the time. We had only 3-4 days with warmer and sunny days that we could enjoy the pool and beach.

Best Things Nearby:
Public transportation was easy and cheap.

Best Things About the Resort:
All units have ocean view.

Resort Experience:
We stayed at Imperial Fiesta Club at Hotel Casa Maya for one week, where we had two one-bedroom units. The furniture in both our units was broken with holes and the appliances were very old. Some other units were nice, but not ours.

Best Things Nearby:
Large swimming pools and a nice beach.

Best Things About the Resort:
The room is very nice and large enough for four people.

Resort Experience:
Mayan Palace Riviera Maya is very nice resort, but stay away from the sale people, unless to want to buy a timeshare. Car rental for few days will allow you to get around on your own. The public transportation in this area is very poor and it will be much cheaper than joining tours to Xcaret, Tulum and Chichen Itza. Driving is very easy.

There is no bottle water for free use and their tap water tasted funny. The best thing to do is use the ice from the ice machine for making coffee, tea, or cooking.

Attraction | "In the Cancun/Maya Riviera beach"

No fishing license is requiring to fish in Mexico. You can fish off the beach. There are a lot fish out there and it's very fun. I saw a gentleman catch 12 fish in one hour.

Story/Tip

You can take a ferry from Play del Carmen to Cozumel. The shopping isn't cheap in Cozumel at all. The ferry goes over every hour during the day. The four of us took a taxi for a two and a half-hour island tour for $300 pesos.
