A must is the ferry from Battery Park to Liberty Island and Ellis Island. It was an amazing sight seeing the Statue of Liberty close up. Ellis Island was really interesting as they have renovated the old building used to procees the first immigrants.
The Empire State building had great views but we were not allowed outside of the observation deck as ice was falling. It became very claustrophic after a while and we found the 80th floor (where the lift stops first) has better views than the 86th.
One of the best evenings was an ice hockey game in Madison Square Garden where we watched the New York Rangers play. I had never watched a game before so I didn't know what to expect - I wasn't dissapointed! It was loud and lively!!
A must when visting the Big Apple is a trip to Broadway. There was lots of different shows to watch, so in the end we plumped for The Graduate. The only way I could get my husband to watch a show because it had nudity in it!
Quick Tips:
Try a sandwich from a delli - they are huge!
Central Park was huge, six miles to walk around it. Even if you don't go all the way round it is definitely worth a stroll, but I wouldn't recommend it at night time.
Best Way To Get Around:
We found the best way was on foot. We walked what must have been miles for the first few days as everything was a lot closer than what we thought and there is plenty to see on the way. The taxis were readily available though if ever our feet tired. The subways are busy and easy to use.
