An October 1999 trip to Vienna by Goodsvejk

A week in Vienna was the highlight of a self-guided tour through the former Austro-Hungarian empire. Vienna, while still maintaining a dynastic air, has become one of the most cosmopolitan cities in Europe. It's guaranteed to be a highlight for anyone interested in history, art, or shopping.

These accommodations are exceptionally located, affordable, and clean. If you're the on-the-go traveler, this pension will fit your needs perfectly. It's close to all the major attractions, there's a wonderful bar on the corner for late-night cocktails, and the prices can't be beat for Vienna. This quaint little pub is the perfect place to enjoy a relaxing evening in Vienna. After a few nights in the beer halls and bars surrounding St. Stephen's Cathedral, you might crave a little quiet. A great beer selection, an even better selection of music, and a friendly staff make this place a perfect addition to a night out on the town.

WOW. The Hundertwasserhaus is one of those "you-have-to-see-it-to-believe-it" sites. A colorful collection of seemingly random architectural designs comes together to form an apartment block. Imagine if Frank Lloyd Wright, Walt Disney, and Anthony Burgess all collaborated on a building. It still wouldn't come close to the strange beauty that Herr Hundertwasser(much to the chagrin of some city officials, I'm sure) created here in Vienna. There are a few more of his buildings in Vienna, and one in Frankfurt, but this is by far his crowning achievement.
