A January 2002 trip to Bethel by shelagh1

Quote: This was my first trip to the Sunday River Ski resort. We stayed at the Jordan Grand Hotel. The accommodations were quite nice.

Best Things Nearby:Skiing from your door. Hotel ski check was very convenient. Lift tickets could be purchased at the front desk.Best Things About the Resort:Staff was very pleasant and helpful. I enjoyed the community fireplace in the lobby early in morning before everyone else was awake.Resort Experience:This is the place to go if money is no object and you just want to be pampered. The hotel was quite beautiful. The lobby was large, with a multi-level wood fireplace in the middle. There was an indoor/outdoor heated pool, hot tub, gym, and spa services available. The food was good, but very expensive for what you received. The grocery store on the mountain w...Read More

We sat down to have the breakfast buffet before a day of skiing. The food was alright. It tasted like the run-of-the-mill buffet; no bells or whistles. The service was marginal. The bill for two people was $60 for breakfast.

This is a nice place to grab a small breakfast or a small lunch for a resonable price. There is not enough seating for lunch. Many people come here right from the slopes. The sandwiches are good and so is the coffee. The service could have been better.

Skiing was very good for little snowfall. Lots of well-groomed trails, mostly of manmade snow -- good snowmaking ability. Lots of terrain. We spent most of our time on Jordan. We loved the fact that we could ski up to the hotel, check our equipment, eat lunch in the privacy of our room, and be back on the slopes in less than an hour. This is a very good beginner and intermediate mountain. The trails are very wide. There is also a good amount of expert terrain.

This store is right on your way to the resort. If you do not want to make the trip down the mountain try to stop on your way if you have room. The prices are reasonable, and don't forget in Maine you can by your beer and wine at the grocery store. The people are also very nice. If you are on a budget this is the way to go.
