Christmas in Scotland

Overview

The timeshare is nestled away in woodland, directly on Loch Awe, on the west coast of Scotland. A few miles away is Oban, which is a busy fishing town and a great spot for shopping. The tourist information center is a fabulous old building, and the staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. The place is stacked with leaflets and brochures on all sorts of activities, and they can book ferry tickets if you want to visit the islands of Mull, Skye, Iona, and several others.Quick Tips: The local smoked salmon, meats, etc. at Inverary were amazing--they ship these items all over the world. There are several signs to the Smokehouse at Inverary along the main Oban road. Try the banana relish with your ...Read More

Best Things Nearby:The timeshare was right on the Loch, nestled away in woodland. The scenery was fantastic, and we even had snow, just right for Xmas.Best Things About the Resort:It was very warm and bright, with a very well-equipped kitchen, which we cooked our Xmas lunch in with no problems. The bedroom was very spacious with a lovely corner whirlpool bath.Resort Experience:The lochside building is a block of terraced 'houses' which were all very similar, with one or two bedrooms, a small kitchen and living room with pull-out bed, a downstairs shower room and toilet, and an upstairs which is loftlike with the main bedroom with bath adjoining. Very pleasant friendly bar staff, friendly and knowledgeable of all things Scottish. There's a wide selection of dishes, presented well and tasting great. There's a good selection of whiskies held behind the bar to look forward to after your meal.

The 'atrium' dining room at the hotel has stunning views overlooking the Loch. Attentive and knowledgeable service offering a wide variety of local fare, including Inverary smoked salmon and hams, locally caught fish, Scottish Aberdeen Angus beef, and excellent proper puddings. The wine list was fairly extensive, and the Christmas spirit was bubbling over.

Ferry to Mull Photo, Oban, Scotland

An excellent day trip is taking the ferry from Oban across the picturesque waterway to the Island of Mull. A forty minute trip, you can take your car, take a coach trip, or go as a foot passenger. We had our two dogs, so we sat on the deck on the outward journey. The capital of Mull is Tobermoray, which is on the north of the island, and here you can get a good meal in one of the eateries, or get a good drink in one of the pubs. There are a couple of hotels, a few bakeries, and a youth hostel (YHA). Tobermoray is renowned for its multi-colored harborfront houses, which are really quaint and pretty with a working harbor as a natural backdrop. On the far side of the island you can go by small b...Read More
