St. Croix offers many beautiful beaches and fantastic snorkeling and scuba sites. Off the north shore, Cane Bay has some of the most active and beautiful snorkeling beaches anywhere. Across the street from an American bar (you'll think you're back on the Jersey Shore), there is easy access from the beach. In no time, you will observe crystal clear water and many different species. For the scuba divers, there is a 300' ledge at the edge of the reef. Anyone will tell you that this is one of the best spots for the sport in the world.
Another must see is the National Park at Buck Island. Take one of the day trips, and you'll get set to enjoy a world- class beach along with a protected snokel trail. In addition to myriad underwater life, you can see sea turtles and dolphins on the sail to the island.
Quick Tips:
Take a walk around Christiansted, stop in for lunch or a drink overlooking the harbor; take a half-day cruise to Buck Island; spend a few hours at the Divi Resort Casino on the east end; play a round at the either Carambola or Buccaneer golf course (or both); spend a day at the Carambola Resort Beach. Or sit by the pool, overlooking the beautiful Caribbean, read a book, and take a nap. Lots to do!
Best Way To Get Around:
If you want to see the island, rent a car. There are several places, but ask for the closest to you. The eastern end of the island is the farthest eastern point in the US, and is actually so arid that you will see cactus growing. The western end (Fredericksted) has a natural deep water harbor, and is where the cruise ships dock. On the western end, there is a tropical forest.
And the town of Christiansted is a quaint cobblestoned Dutch Colony with much of its original architecture. The shops are friendly, and are hosted by great staff. The restaurants range from really casual to fine dining. But you can find all types of food, and all types of atmospheres. Cabs are plentiful and are have their rates regulated. But to really see the island, get a car and drive around.
