A December 2002 trip to Lahaina by bgoshorn
Quote: Three weeks at the Kulean Club Maui with family and friends coming and going. A Christmas to remember and weather to brag about. Besides the normal tours around the island, four family members got scuba certified. Survival on a budget.
Hotel
We enjoyed the sunset nightly as the sun dropped over the island of Lanai. My wife and I slept in the living room on the Murphy bed and gave our guests the bedroom; not because we were that gracious, but because we enjoyed listening to the surf break on the shore and waking up to the view each morning. Since we were there three weeks, linen service was weekly on Thursday. If we needed extra towels during the week, we could exchange them at the office.

Attraction | "Scuba Certification at a Discount"
Bill Digney (also know as the "Happy Leprechaun"), is the dive manager and master instuctor. He was our instructor. The reason the classes are less expensive is that he works out of his van and your classroom is right on the beach. This is perfect. He did a fantastic job and we all had a great time. He even came to our condo to give the final written test. That is real "Aloha" spirit.

Story/Tip
A nice natural area is along the highway into Lahaina at Mile Marker 14 (+or- a mile in either direction). There are lots of trees, almost down to the water, which provide great places to hide from the sun and other people. The ocean is always calm and there are usually lots of fish to see in the sand channels between the coral heads.
