A Week In San Carlos, Mexico

A September 2001 trip to San Carlos by LisaCharlene

We took a drive from Phoenix, AZ to San Carlos, Mexico and spent a week in Plaza Las Glorias. A place where the crystal waters of the Sea of Cortez meet the rugged terrain of the Sonoran Desert. Saguaro cactus and white sand -- unusual -- rugged yet exquisite.

Best Things Nearby:
Great diving, boating, beaching, and relaxing. Check out the estuary, Rosa's Cantina, and take a day drive to Alamos.

Best Things About the Resort:
The location is simply stunning. Sits directly on the marina in a protected cove with views of the mountains and cliff homes.

Resort Experience:
The resort was somewhat run down when we were there. The rooms were quite nice, but the general cleanliness of the units and hotel were lacking. The front desk was responsive when asked, but did not go out of their way to accommodate.

I got the feeling that the hotel was possibly changing hands or management.

With a little effort this could be a superb hotel--the location is top notch!

Restaurant

Beautiful hotel, restaurant, and ambiance. The BEST flan I have ever tasted. There is a wide variety of local dishes, Mexican favorites, and lots of seafood, and a flair for presentation and fine service. The best fine dining in the area. There's also an excellent Fiesta Night buffet.
