A July 2002 trip to Boston by JOHNRABBETT

A great trip to see the home of the Irish in the United States.

Lobster, lobster everywhere, and very reasonably priced. The city was a GREAT place to find seafood. We went to a Red Sox game, which was great fun and we also went to Cape Cod, and Plymouth. This was a highly recommended vacation that we all enjoyed. Take a whale watching tour or visit the aquarium and cruise around the harbour. You can see Old Iron Sides, where the English lost their tea. We also recommend The Ghost and Graves tour which was fun, and a way to get a feel for Boston while getting some local history . . .

Quick Tips:

Bring plenty of sun cream if going in the summer, as we all got burned more than once. Take a tram ride to see sights and get a feel for the place. Fanueil Hall is a great food court that offers some of the best lobster chowder I''ve ever tasted.

Best Way To Get Around:

Public transport is not the most reliable, because the "Big Dig" is upsetting a lot of routes, but if you can avoid rush hour you should be fine.

"Sometimes you want to go, where everybody knows your name"...bring back memories?

Everyone remembers the TV show, and now you get a chance to experience for yourself the delights of the bar that inspired the TV show. The food was pub grub at its best, and we all enjoyed ourselves.

Restaurant | "Faneuil Hall/Quincy Market"

This is a great place to tempt your taste buds as you savor the mixed aromas of many different food outlets. The food was all of the best quality and we all felt that it was worth the queuing. The seafood was fresh and tasted great lobster was quite cheap here. The area was also a great place to browse for holiday gifts and some cheap sports goods.

It was also a great place to start tours from as most passed the market at some stage. There was also a comedy restaurant where you could be abused while enjoying you meal -- not something I was interested in, but there is a market for it.

My first trip to IHOP and I loved it. Pancakes of all sorts. . . mmmmmmmmmm. It’s a great place for kids of all ages. The food was excellent and relatively cheap. There was a great hustle and bustle about the place that we enjoyed, but the aroma had my mouth watering. The service was excellent. I had a T-bone steak for breakfast followed by strawberry pancakes. It was an out of this world experience by any means.

Attraction

The tour is a different way to get to see Boston in the early evening. It takes you to see the local burial sites with a bit of fun thrown in for good measure. We learned about the great Molasses flood that killed 12 people and about the Boston Strangler and how it's thought he wasn't the real killer. We also had great fun driving around in the coffin they called a bus. The hostesses were excellent and very knowledgeable. The experience was really great and everyone loved it.
