Montezuma Castle National Monument

This national monument is in a lovely parklike setting with lots of trees and a stream. The cliff dwellings are not accessible, but can be readily viewed from the trail, and are unusual in their preservation and beauty. Inside the ranger office is a museum, and informative talking dioramas are located along the trail.

Oak Creek Canyon

The road through Oak Creek Canyon starts at the northwest corner of town and winds for many miles through a rising gorge full of beautiful trees and picturesque Oak Creek.

We got out of the car about halfway up to climb down to the creek and walk around the shore for a while. I got some beautiful photos of my kids on the rocks playing in the water. The light was fantastic! At the top of the gorge you reach snow level, and it's not far from there to Flagstaff, a nice little town to visit.
