A Sampling of Shreveport Cuisine

My picks of the best local places to eat!

If you're in South Shreveport, and you're hungry for a muffaletta--this is THE PLACE to go. For those outside Louisiana borders, a muffaletta is a delicious New Orleans sandwich of Italian origin. All of Papa's bread is homemade and delicious. The staff is friendly and eager to prepare your sandwich to your liking. Any sandwich on the menu is tasty, but the muffaletta is #1 in my book.

Athenian DelightsBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant

Greek food in Shreveport, Louisiana? This casual dining restaurant is one of my very favorite eating spots in the city. Everything I've had has been superb. The waitstaff is excellent and pays a lot of attention to detail. The Greek salad is a pungent mix of all the right flavors, and always super fresh. The traditional gyro is excellent. A "never miss" appetizer choice is the marinated portabello mushrooms served with a side of tzatziki and bread. A sister restaurant, Athenian Nights, has recently opened and is equally delicious.

The CubBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant

The Cub offers Shreveport's very best steak and au-gratin potatoes. It's not a fancy place and it's not very big, but you won't forget your dining experience here. Start off with a mouthwatering order of marinated crab claws. Then have one of their ever-fresh wedge salads with their super peppery-sweet Ranch-style dressing. The filets are absolutely excellent, time after time--I've never had a bad one there. There are french fries on the menu, though one wonders why, considering the au-gratin potatoes are beyond compare. Give The Cub a try. You won't be sorry!

L'Italiano RestaurantBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant | "L'Italiano"

To experience L'Italiano, you'll have to cross the Red River into Bossier City. And it's worth the short trip. For starters, I would suggest the mozzarella salad. The carbonara is delicious. The seafood entrees are always top-notch. The staff is super friendly, too.

Superior Bar & GrillBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant | "Superior Bar & Grill"

This place is legendary in these parts! It has great Mexican food, and even greater ambience. This is a very popular Mexican restaurant and place to see and be seen in Shreveport, and it's very evident if you show up for dinner on a Friday or Saturday night around 7. Get ready to wait. Go early to avoid the crowds. The margaritas are good--good and STRONG. The queso is highly recommended as a starter. All entrées are sizeable. You will not leave Superior hungry. The fish tacos are my favorite and are absolutely delicious. Salads are always fresh and tasty. Shish kebabs are also a good choice. Fajitas are never-miss. You're guaranteed good food and good times at Superior. Live music on the patio on some nights.

George's GrillBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant

This is THE PLACE for the best pancakes in Shreveport. George's Grill is a Shreveport institution. There's nothing fancy here, just an old grill. Breakfast items are the best. Grilled sandwiches and burgers are also good. Also, try the chocolate pie.
