"Party of 7" - Disney in January

A January 2003 trip to Orlando by wegetaround01

Quote: Our trip to Orlando was EXTREMELY enjoyable, even for a large party like ours. There were seven of us total (three preschoolers and four adults). The Sheraton Vistana is a parent's dream. Many activities for kids onsite, and plenty of room to roam. The temperature averaged about 65 degrees during the day, and the pools are kept in the high 80s. Cascades and the fountains pools were open until 1am! January is a PERFECT time to visit Disney if traveling with little ones. There are virtually NO lines for the rides - perfect for short attention spans. This was an absolutely effortless vacation.

Let the warmth of the Florida sun envelop you at one of the most beautiful RCI retreats in the vicinity of Disney: The Sheraton Vistana Resort. Even in early January, we took in the beautifully landscaped grounds, heated pools and many wonderful activities that this resort has to offer. Because the pools are heated to nearly 85 degrees we were able to swim almost every day - the average daily temperature was in the mid to high 60s, which was great for January. Swim as late as 1am if you''d like at the Cascades and Fountains -- you can get drinks (real ones) while soaking in the nearby hottub. As you decend upon the entrance of the Magic Kingdom, the sound of Jimny Cricket singing ...Read More

Best Things Nearby:Buying one-day Disney Park Hopper passes for $10 each (recommended if you''re on a budget). Kiosks are available --but we had to go on a timeshare tour. So be brave, and give it a try! The Vistana staff was so nice, especially when I asked for a different unit (didn''t like the first older unit). Best Things About the Resort:The amenities are endless! Ask the staff (nicely) and you shall receive. The full kitchen was wonderful, we didn''t need to eat at restaurants and saved lots of $$! As for the pools, the Cascades and Fountains pools were both open until 1am, including the hot tubs. You can also get drinks (real ones) at the nearby bar. Tanning ($7 ...Read More

We really enjoyed the selection of most American cuisine at Dan Marino's restaurant. This is located in the same plaza as F.A.O. Schwartz. Surprisingly, the football star has terrific taste when it comes to the food selection and the menu even caters to kids. Moderately priced, about the same or slightly higher than a T.G.I. Fridays. Great atmosphere, reminds me of Champs back home.

Like stepping into a fairytale dream. At every turn, "When you wish upon a star," is playing in full surround sound. Everyone is in character. The characters are so very unassuming, that even a very shy child (like mine) will be brave enough to offer a hug. This is truly one park where you are truly "in the moment" and you don't want the moment to end. My three year old son was in awe of the rides, especially "It's a Small World" (you'll be singing the song for days afterwards). Even if you don't ride the rides, there are plenty of beautiful sites. Suggest staying until dusk, so you can get a beautiful shot of "Main Street USA" all lit up. After the fireworks, hop the Monorail to Epcot in ...Read More

You'll feel like you're walking onto a Hollywood movie set from the early 20th century, when Hollywood starlets, leading men, and pinstripe suits were all the rage. You'll find plenty of Art Deco, diners, and cute movie collectibles in the park shops. I loved the theme, and we managed to wander up and down the main street, meandering into all of the shops to see what interesting poster art we could find. THE PARADE: These Disney stars do it in STYLE! Here, Mickey and Donald drive down in a fancy cars with whitewall tires. There, you'll find Disney characters wearing sunglasses and pinstripe suites. What a sight! DINING: Plenty of diners available that fit the theme, but try the one ...Read More

Very nostalgic. You get to see the "visionary" in the Disney creators. We didn't get to see as much at this resort, but the stroll around the world was so neat. The park layout consists of a large, circular lake in the middle. All the way around the lake, the walk is just over 1 mile, so wear your walking shoes. As you walk, you'll pass replicas of familiar architecture from around the world, including the Eiffel Tower (located in Paris), and the Mayan Ruins (Mexico). BUDGET CONSCIOUS: We purchased 1-day park hoppers from an Orlando kiosk (which was very close to the Vistana resort where we stayed). We arrived at Epcot using the free monorail from Magic Kingdom. Taxi from Epcot...Read More
