The best thing about Jekyll Island is the peace and tranquility one finds.Quick Tips: If you are planning a trip to Jekyll Island and want to stay at the Jekyll Island Club Hotel, do yourself a favor and let a travel agent make your reservation. It is a little known fact that travel agents can get better rates for you than you can yourself. So save yourself some money and let your travel agent do your booking.Best Way To Get Around: Recently there was an attempt made to be able to bring scooters to the island but the island authority voted it down, much to the delight of the island's permanent residents. The best way to get around the island is by foot, bicycle, or car. There are a...Read More

Our room was located on the third floor with an excellent view of the swimming pool and the river beyond. Our room had a king size bed, a table with two chairs, and an armoire, which served as a dresser, closet and a place for the television. There was no closet because when the hotel was built, the members' clothes were stored somewhere else and brought to them by their maids and butlers when they were ready to dress. Also the room was not overly large because, as we learned when taking a tour of the hotel, all activities other than sleeping were done in the public rooms. When planning a stay at the Jekyll Island Club call your travel agent to make your reservations. They are able to get m...Read More

Jekyll Island Club Hotel: Grand Dining Room

Restaurant | "Grand Dining Room"

The Grand Dining Room at the Jekyll Island Club Hotel truly lives up to its name - it is a grand dining experience - no matter what meal you eat here. Breakfast features an all you can eat buffet. While there is not an egg station to fix eggs the way you want them - the server will be glad to pass your order to the chef.

Lunch was absolutely delicious - be sure and try the corn chowder. We were unable to eat dinner here because I did not have a jacket. If you plan to eat dinner here be sure and bring along a jacket as it is required.

Don't let the location scare you away. The restaurant is located in the only shopping center in town and the atmosphere ain't much, but the food is delicious with huge helpings.
There is also a serve your own salad bar but don't fill up on salad or you won't have room for the good stuff when it arrives at your table piping hot. The owner reportedly owns a fishing boat so the seafood is always fresh.

The 90-minute tours are offered every day of the the year except Christmas and New Year's Day.The tram tour includes stops at the Moss Cottage, Mistletoe Cottage, Indian Mound Cottage and the Dubignon Cottage. Also the tram tour is the only way one can gain admittance to these cottages. In addition to the tram tour of the historic district, visitors may also take a carriage ride through the district; however, the carriage ride does not stop at each of the cottages. Daytime carriage rides depart from the visitor's center between the hours of 10 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. daily except Sunday. The 40-minute tour is $10 for adults and $5 for children 10 and under. The evening rides depart from the Jekyll Island Club Hotel, by the bicycle stands, between the hours of 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. The cost is a minimum of $30 for two people with a $10 charge for an extra person. Jekyll Island Bicycle Rentals

Attraction

There are 20 miles of bicycle paths on Jekyll Island. The trails are level and paved. They run all over the island so one can also sightsee while riding. A free map is available to help keep you from getting lost.
A variety of bicycles are available for rent.
The authority recently heard a proposal to allow the rental of scooters on the island but don't look for that to happen anytime in the near future. Residents of the island like their peace and quiet too much.
I highly recommend the bike paths for those who are used to riding bicycles but if you haven't ridden in a while - be prepared for some sore muscles the next day.

Special Telephone Photo, Jekyll Island, Georgia

Near the entrance to the Indian Mound Cottage is a telephone and not just any ordinary telephone. This telephone was used to make the first transcontinental telephone call. Theodore Vail, the presdient of AT&T, was supposed to make the call from somewhere else. But a leg injury found him recuperating on Jekyll Island when the time came to make the first call. In order to make this historic call, telephone company employees, had to run a thousand miles of cable to the island. On January 25, 1915, Vail, talked with Alexander Graham Bell, the inventor of the telephone, who was in New York, Thomas Watson, the assistant to Bell, who was in San Francisco and Presiden...Read More

Captain Vernon Reynolds will take you on a cruise of the bays, waterways and creeks surrounding Jekyll Island.

Reynolds, who is a USCG Licensed Captain with 30 years experience in navigating the local waters, points out the wood storks, blue heron and white egret that inhabit the salt marshes. But the biggest thrill is seeing the dolphins who call the waters around Jekyll Island home.

In addition to his sightseeing trips, Reynolds is also available for fishing trips, both inshore and offshore.

To contact him phone 912-265-0392.
