This was a complex of condos, hotels, shops, and schools. It is behind a guarded gate, so we felt fairly safe when there. They were good about checking when you entered and left. The beach was directly across the street and very beautiful. Safety is a big factor when traveling in Rio, and we felt safe enough to let our teens walk around the complex at night alone. I do have to say that the people at the desk were not particulary helpful, which was not what you were led to believe when you looked at the web site. I rented two separate condos to house all of our party and one was quite a bit superior to the other. We also had to light the gas in each bathroom to enable us to have hot water. AS this was not something I was used to, it was slightly intimidating. The walls were very thin and whatever went on next door, you did not have to call on the phone to find out about. I have to say that this is the "expensive" part of Rio and to some extent was not what I expected. Overall, it was fine. We did have breakfast each morning included and it was served in a room on the first floor of the main building and was fine.
