Kauai is Just Right

A January 2003 trip to Kauai by MickJ

Kauai is a splendid island in the Hawaiian chain. It's large and complex, but has virtually no population. (That's good!)

Beach Villas
This place was on the water and very pretty. The one bedroom had two baths and although it was slightly older style, we both enjoyed it very much. The Villas have full privileges with the Radisson Hotel and they have a nice set up too. No central AC, although that is not uncommon for Kauai. Just a bedroom unit, but that was sufficient.

Best Things Nearby:
The Radisson has everything you need and it's right next door within 150 feet. They also have a great lagoon pool and beach bar setup.

Best Things About the Resort:
Very close to the ocean and beachfront.

Resort Experience:
It's a bit in the old style, but clean and comfortable. The kitchen is large and efficient, there are two baths, and nice amenities. There's an AC unit in bedroom only. (Kauai is like that everywhere.)

One of the best meals in Kauai! The seafood was cooked perfectly and my wife's steak was fantastic. Great ambience and speciality shops ajoin. A very nice place. Don't miss this one.

Prince course
This course is in the top 21 courses to play in Golf Digest, and deservedly so. It winds up and down mountain slopes and comes near the great Pacific. The fairways are narrow but the terrain is unlike anything in this world - so very beautiful! You'll like this course. Great personnel runs it too.

Worth the trip
What a great excursion! Our group of five riders and one guide started at 11:00am and rode through some fields for 1 hour. We then climbed off our steeds and began a twenty minute walk down to a gorgeous waterfall and pond area. The walk was narrow and downhill, but still managed to make us feel it. Upon arrival, our guide cut up some cheese, turkey, and veggies for some pita bread lunches--good! We were hungry. Some of us swam in the natural pool, too. We started back up the slope and took a fun short cut that challenged our muscles, but all was OK. Back on horseback, and an hour later we were back to our cars, much richer for the experience. This trail was the "waterfall picnic ride," and was really fun. For kids or adults.

I wish we could have enjoyed this ride more. We had back seats and it's ultra windy without doors on the rear compartment (we could have requested doors at N/C). The pilot took us all over the island and showed us things you can't even hike to on the island. Many beautiful waterfalls (like those seen in Jurassic Park), and many million dollar beach villas, too. The canyons were breathtaking. A must see for people who have strong stomachs.
