Sunny South Padre Island

An October 2002 trip to South Padre Island by lusaka

White-sand beaches and beautiful sunsets.

  • 7 reviews
Playing in the sand and surf. Get a great tan, relax and unwind, and find a perfect sand dollar for your souvenir.

Quick Tips:

Go in October--the weather is great, the water is still warm, the beaches are deserted, and the rates have gone down.

Best Way To Get Around:

Rent a bike, take the island trolley, or use your own two feet.

Hotel | "Sunchase Beachfront Condo"

These are great condos right on the beach. There's a choice of one-, two-, three-, and four-bedroom units. There are also two pools with Jacuzzi and tennis courts. Leave the windows open and enjoy the sound of the surf.

Restaurant | "Blackbeards"

This place has great seafood--be sure to order the stuffed jalapeños. There's something on the menu for everyone. It's usually crowed during the summer season, but can accommodate large groups without reservations.

After a great day on the beach, you can sit and sip your drink as you watch the sun set slowly into the Laguna Madre. Seafood is the specialty, and I especially love the scampi, which has just the right amount of garlic. The menu does offer things for those who don't love seafood.

This is more than just a resturant. Sure, you can get good food and drinks, but nowhere else on the island can you dance on the outdoor deck underneath the stars and bungee-jump from the tower, if you're the daring type.

Rowan's RestaurantBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant | "Rovan's Resturant & Bakery"

If you're looking for breakfast on the way to the beach, this is the place. The biscuits and gravy will definitely stick to your ribs. They serve breakfast all day, if you're getting a late start from a late night. While you're here, stock the picnic basket with fresh pastries for the road.

Here you'll find good Italian food in a small resturant: pizza, pasta, and subs. I love the meatball sandwich. Best of all, if you're wiped out from a hard day at the beach, they will deliver to your room.
