An October 1999 trip to Bruges by Kathy
Quote: We took the train from Brussels to Bruge and stayed overnight. You could do this as a day trip but then you wouldnt see the square lit up at night. This is a wonderful city and well worth the short train trip. We really enjoyed staying overnite, so we could have a nice dinner and see the square lit up at night and not have to rush back to Brussels. But even if you didn't have the time to stay overnite I would do it as a day trip. There are lots of nice shops here.
Overview
Hotel
This is a rather small hotel. The room wasn't ready when we got there but they held our bags and we checked in later. The owner was very friendly and we had a fully cooked breakfast included in the price.

Story/Tip
There are tons of shoe shops and my husband got a nice fleece top which he needed since it was cold. There were also tons of wonderful chocolate shops of course. We both bought some nice looking cheap shoes but they fell apart after we wore them twice. So maybe don''t buy the shoes or the cheap ones anyway.
Most all the shops are on any of the side streets off the main square, just walk and explore.
