As East as you can go in North America

A May 2000 trip to St. Johns by Liken D Sun

Quote: We drove from central Canada out to the far side of Newfoundland and spent five days in St. Johns. It was a long drive but a fabulous trip.

Overview

Quote:
Whale-watching is a must, Signal Hill was great, and Cape Spear was really something. I now understand what the expression 'the fog rolling in' means.

Quick Tips:

Stay at a B&B as the locals can give you many tips and suggestions. Also, get yourself sworn in as a Newfoundlander, the locals can tell you how to go about this.

Best Way To Get Around:

A car is definitely helpful!

The hosts were wonderful people, the accommodations were nice, breakfast was great, and it was all around pleasant. As you may guess from the name the house was decorated year round in the Christmas theme. This was an experience in May and June.

Attraction

Quote:
There are two or three tours that run out of the waterfront in St. Johns. The one we took was excellent (as apparently were the others). You will get close ups of whales that you will not experience anywhere else. In addition you will have the opportunity to get sworn in as a Newfoundlander. If kissing the cod fish and drinking screech sounds good then this is for you!
