Phoenix highlights

A February 2002 trip to Phoenix by beefarmer

A trip mostly to visit family, but able to hit some area highlights. Frank Lloyd Wright's Tallesian West, Sedona, Desert Botanical Gardens and science museum. Most of our visit centered on the Scottsdale area.

The Desert Botanical Gardens is quite a treat, but do bring something to drink. Even in the winter, the "dry" heat can make you thirsty.

Quick Tips:

Best Way To Get Around:

Car is the only way.

Hotel | "Sheraton's Desert Oasis"

Best Things Nearby:
Talleisan West, golf course (I don't play, but I understand this is a big deal course), and shopping.

Best Things About the Resort:
Pool was very nice with water fall and a "sprinkler" type area for kids.

Resort Experience:
There was a nice lodge lobby with a great pool area. There are two types of one bedroom units here. We had the smaller type with a partial kitchen (this means NO stove or oven). The living room area was a bit cramped especially when we added the crib for our baby. They do provide cribs at no charge. The cleaning service only comes once a week, so if you are staying for only one week there is no linen change or cleaning. This is available for a charge. The rooms do have washer/dryer so you can wash your own towels if you like. The resort was at the northern end of Scottsdale, so getting to old town and most attractions was a little ways away.

We did have a problem with them double charging our credit card for an extra nights stay. Getting the refund took over a month.

Well if you like margaritas this is the place. I'm a on the rocks with lots of salt type. I decided to try a peach margarita. They are served frozen with fresh coconut on the rim. Very yummy!

The sopapias served at the end were the absolute best part of the meal, although the entrees were all good too. This is a hot spot, so expect to wait to be seated!

Attraction | "Tallesan West"

There are different tours. We took a slightly expanded tour where we saw the living room. A great tour! There is a bit of walking, but everything is fully accessible for wheel chairs and strollers! The view from the site is lovely. You may want to read up on Frank Lloyd Wright so you can really ask questions or see the actual items you read about.

If you are looking for adventure/excitement this is not for you.
