Sunny Iowa

A June 2002 trip to Spirit Lake by SUEAL

In June 2002, we decided to have a family reunion in Iowa. Family traveled from Minnesota, South Dakota, and Florida. Spirit Lake is an hour Southeast of Sioux Falls, SD and was a beautiful location.

Overview

I was so impressed with this resort. We had three units, a studio, a one-bedroom, and a two-bedroom cottage. All of the accommodations were excellent. The resort had an indoor and outdoor pool, plus a swimming area on the lake with docks for fishing and boat rentals.

Quick Tips:

The resort was well-maintained, had two restaurants, a game room, a shop, and a Wal-Mart within a 15-minute drive. You would need a rental car as there are no airports close and the town is 15-minutes away. For a relaxing and peaceful week, do your shopping the first day and hang out by the pool, lake, or on your deck for a cookout. There were some activites and cookouts at the resort if you wanted to be social!

Best Way To Get Around:

I did not see that any public transportation was provided. You will need a car, especially to go into town or to go golfing at the beautiful course just down the street. The resort offered discounts at a couple of the local resorts.
Best Things Nearby:
Golf, indoor/outdoor pool, lake, fishing, shopping, amusement park.

Best Things About the Resort:
Set out in the country on a beautiful lake. Swimming beach, plus indoor/outdoor pool and game room. Boat rental, minature golf, and close to town.

Resort Experience:
The accommodations were nice with the cottages right along the lake with lake and beach views. We had access to a studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom cottage, and all were set up nice and within a short walking distance to everything on the resort.

Attraction | "Amusement Park"

This is an old amusement park that has been maintained by volunteers in the local community. It is on the waterfront of Spirit Lake and is accessible by either car or boat. It has free entrance, you pay for the rides only. You can accompany your children without having to pay to get in and watch them. There are specialty shops outside the park and a few small restaurants.
