Ayers Rock, I went on a five day camping tour around Uluru, the Olga's, and Kings Canyon with Sahara Tours (www.saharatours.com). It was fantastic -- we stayed in fully serviced campsites with hot showers, we gathered our own firewood and all helped cook all our meals. There were 25 people in the group all aged from 25-70 and we all got on brilliantly; our guide was also brilliant. I stayed in a 6-bed dorm for AU$12 per night, which was basic but cheap and comfortable. There is a swimming pool, food, and a bar. There is also email access. However, it is a 20-minute walk from the centre of Alice Springs, which should not be undertaken once it gets dark!!

Rooms were basic and a bit old, but the hostel is in the city center and the staff is ultra-friendly and helpful. There is a bar underneath the hostel and the hostel staff members go out with the guests once a week! There is internet access and an airport pick-up service!! They will also arrange tours to the Blue Mountains for you!! You can book it on www.hostelworld.com.

This was the nicest hostel I stayed in while visiting Australia. It was very clean and very modern with a fantastic cafe, internet access, two TV lounges, kitchen, lockers, and the staff there will organise all tours for you, such as day trips to the Pinnacles Desert. They also organise activities such as surfing, sky diving, etc. It can be booked on www.hostelworld.com.
