Rainy Week in Orlando

A December 2002 trip to Orlando by dalefried

Quote: Stayed at Hilton Grand Vacation at Sea World. The resort was gorgeous and the location was perfect. It was right across the street from Sea World and very close to International Drive.

Rainy Week in Orlando

Overview

Quote:
Of course, Disney and Universal studios are great, but we visit every year. The concierge recommended visiting Celebration, FL, which was enjoyable. They have model homes to view, which was fun.

Quick Tips:

We also enjoyed the Mystery Sleuth Dinner Theater. They have eight different scripts, so you probably won't see the same show twice.

Best Way To Get Around:

The Hilton resort provided shuttle service to Sea World and Disney, but the best way to get around is a CAR!

The rooms are gorgeous. We had a two bedroom lock-out. One is a one-bedroom apartment and the other is a studio apartment with its own couch, partial kitchen and bathroom. The one-bedroom apartment has a full kitchen, living room, master bedroom and big bathroom. It also has a jacuzzi tub. In the master bathroom, I had a problem with the sink drains in both sinks, but my mother had no complaints with the studio apartment. She enjoyed watching TV on the couch in the morning so that she didn't disturb me while I slept late in the mornings. The location was wonderful, it was across the street from Sea World, a short drive to International Drive and Downtown Disney. Our complex had its own swimming p...Read More

Best Things Nearby:Sea World, International Drive, and downtown Disney.Best Things About the Resort:Beautiful resort, large gorgeous rooms, and two large, heated pools. Many outdoor whirlpools and jacuzzi in master bathroom.Resort Experience:The resort was gorgeous. If you plan on spending all your time at the theme parks, you can come here, but if you have been to Orlando as many times as I have, this resort doesn't have many things to do onsite. It rained four days and I spent enough money shopping for two of them. I had enough of shopping. Usually there are manager's meetings at the beginning of the week so that you can meet other timeshare owners. There...Read More

Boston Lobster Feast I-Drive

Restaurant | "Boston Lobster Feast"

Quote:
We were seated immediately without reservations. If you get there before 6pm, the price is $24.99. It goes up to $29.99 after six. Luckily we got there at 5:50 pm. The most important thing I want to say is that the food is DELICIOUS! I am a vegetarian, but I tried the Seafood Casserole and fried shrimp. Of course I had all the vegetarian side dishes also. My mother is not a vegetarian and she said that her food was fantastic also. You can have a whole lobster for yourself. The only problem was that we were starved when we arrived, and we were full so fast. We wanted to eat more because the food tasted so good!

Sleuths Mystery Dinner Shows

Attraction | "Mystery Sleuth's Dinner Theater"

Quote:
You are placed at a table for 10, so you get to meet new people. If you want to participate you'll have a great time, but if you don't want to participate, they don't force you and you have a great time anyway! There is a different show every night, so if you want to come back another time, you will probably experience a different show. I liked this show much better than the Arabian Nights show.

Cirque du Soleil La Nouba

Attraction | "Cirque du Soleil"

Quote:
This is an amazing show, although it is very expensive. I can't believe the talent of these performers, especially these young girls that perform. They are maybe five to nine years old, and they are awesome. I sat in the third row, which was great because we were so close, but I had to keep my neck raised up because of the trapeze and high-wire artists, so maybe the higher seats would give you a better all-around view. The show is about an hour and a half, so think about all of this before you shell out the $78 (w/tax included). During this seven day vacation, it rained four days, and I don't think I would have spent the money if it hadn't been a wash out.

Lake Buena Vista Factory Stores

Attraction | "Lake Buena Vista Outlets"

Quote:
I love this outlet and we visit every year. There is a Swim Mart (where I always find something), Liz Claiborne outlet, Dress Barn, and a Disney Character Corner store with great discounts. There is also a Murano glass store, and the prices are fantastic. I have priced around and this store has different figurines than I have seen anywhere else.

There is usually a coupon with discounts in it for this outlet. When you get the discount book, look for it. My sister is visiting Orlando in April, and I am going to send her back to buy another Murano glass figurine for me!
