Quote: Seeing Washington D.C. in 4 days, with 31 eleven year olds and 33 parents, on 2 tour buses was MAD!!! But, OH!,the stories, memories and videos! If you've seen the movie, "If It's Tuesday, It Must Be Belgium", you have SOME idea of what this was like!

Leaving 6:30 a.m. Day 1, on a Baltimore Flight, and returning Day 4 at 8:20 p.m., we made 31 (count 'em) stops! Here's what we saw: Supreme Court; National Art Gallery; National Archives; Library of Congress; Capitol Building; Rainforest Cafe; Old Post Office; Ford's Theatre/Peterson House; White House; Hard Rock Cafe; Holocaust Museum; Navy Museum; Air & Space Museum; Union Station; Iwo Jima, Vietnam, Korean, Lincoln, Jefferson and Einstein Memorials; Kennedy Center; Spirit Cruise Tour - Mt. Vernon; Smithsonian American and National History Museums; Toby's Dinner Theatre (Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat); FDR Memorial; Bureau of Engraving; National Cathedral; Pentagon; and Arl...Read More

LOCATION--LOCATION--LOCATION! This was a good pick and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND it. Easy access to ALL THINGS WASHINGTON, yet enough "out of the epicenter" to allow for relatively uncongested travel. We spent very little time in this hotel during waking hours, but it's worth mentioning for the following: 1. Very accomodating--REMEMBER! We had 31 fifth-graders! (Management even treated us to a wonderful private breakfast buffet one early morning, in a banquet room at the top of the hotel. Outside Balcony = Gorgeous View! 2. Lobby Bar and Rooftop Disco/Bar (if ONLY we had had the energy?!) 3. Gift Shop--just in case you forgot "Aunt Edna" or "Cousin Pearl" at e...Read More

This was GREAT FUN! A surprisingly professional troupe of young, talented, energetic actors. It's aimed at tour groups; you eat and watch "in the round"; everyone sits "center stage"--not a bad table in the place. You eat in shifts, called by table. There are several buffet lines and a wide variety of food--standard fare, but also some gourmet. There's a full, excellent salad bar before the main course. Tea, coffee, soda, and dessert are included; drinks are a la carte, served by cast members. A live orchestra entertains. The kind of campy intro by the MC announced b-days, anniversaries, and groups. We saw Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (continuing t...Read More

Hard Rock Cafe?! Kind of a stretch if we follow the "significance" theme, I know. BUT give me a minute--significance is in the eye of the beholder. Food was good--standard fare. If you've been to one HRC, you know the menu (I had the barbecue pulled pork sandwich, which was fine. Always am in search of (but usually disappointed) GOOD BBQ. Comes from being raised on Gates (the BEST) and Bryants (close second) in K.C., but . . . I digress . . .). Here's the point (or, at least, the perspective). My 11- (now 12-) year-old son collects hats. Baseball Hats. AUTHENTIC Baseball Hats. In 1999, when Boy Scouts were THE THING; we had to have the "Limited-Edition 1999" hat, FROM the...Read More

WORTH SEEING! We boarded before 9am, didn't disembark until after 2pm, and got a plethora of historical information and activities in between. Do this, though, in conjunction with a Spirit Cruise and experience it as a 'sail up the Potomac, toward Mount Vernon' adventure! These are nice, comfortable boats with lots of deck and galley room. The parents enjoyed the sun and the view from 'above,' while the kids played cards and scrounged money for the snackbar, 'below'. This is a beautiful and serene trip that took us about 45 minutes each way. On the return trip, sack lunches were provided (standard fare of sandwich, fruit, chips, cookie, and drink). Mt. Vernon, itself, is QUITE a compound! Great ...Read More

DO WALK THE MALL! There's something highly significant about JUST BEING HERE! To have "walked the walk" of SO many, who come from ALL places, for a multitude of reasons, just to be in Washington, D.C., . . . is HUGE! I know I "panned" some major sites for "content of tour," but believe it, this is STILL worth making the trip to stand on the steps of the Capitol or Supreme Court Building (you don't have to go inside . . . ), AND to walk Pennsylvania Avenue to stand before the gates of the White House! It was meaningful to me to stand on the steps of Grant's Monument, and to remember that Kennedy and Martin Luther King, Jr., stood there, too . . . encouraging and inspiring u...Read More
