As a former residents of this city (and student at Tulane University) I've seen all sides of New Orleans...and absolutely LOVE it! If you want to experience great music, food, sights and have lots of fun..without even setting foot on Bourbon Street (imagine that!?)..read this journal!

Oh, I could go on and on! See some live bands at Tipitina's or Checkpoint Charlies. Take a ride on the Streetcar (not Trolley!). Have your palm read or tarot done at Jackson Square. And as a personal request, eat a burrito for me at Juan's Flying Burrito on Magazine Street.

Quick Tips:

Visit during Mardi Gras if you must. But there is SO much MORE to New Orleans. My favorite is New Orleans in the spring - it smells SO good Uptown. And you can go to Jazz Fest! However, New Orleans during Christmas is also one of my favorite times: St. Charles Avenue is beautiful and I can never get enough of the lights in City Park.

Best Way To Get Around:

Walking, streetcar, bus, taxis...it's all relatively inexpensive

This is one of my all-time fave places to eat in New Orleans. The burritos are HUGE and tasty. Waitstaff is hip, college-age kids and the service could be better, but who cares! The food is great.

A diner-type place just past the corner of Carrollton and St. Charles. The streetcar practically drops you off on their doorstop. Great burgers and excellent pie. Don't leave without having a piece of dessert!

This place holds a special place in my heart. I worked here for two years during my tenure as a student at Tulane. The Dazs rocks!

My faves have always been sorbet sippers (raspberry), pralines and pecan, and the vanilla frozen yogurt with caramel-and-hot-fudge topping. An insider tip: Don't get any soda ("cold drink") from the fountain -- it's been flat and gross for years!

P.S. It's right around the corner from Camellia Grill.

Attraction

Spring is my favorite time in New Orleans. And what better to do on a weekend than go to the fairgrounds for Jazz Fest and listen to fantastic music all day!? There are always big names mingled with local celebs and annual stand-bys (Jimmy Buffett -- Parrotheads 4ever!)

Halloween in NOLABest of IgoUgo

Story/Tip

Halloween in New Orleans is the best! I've never been to any other city that gets so excited on October 31. You must head to Bourbon Street and see all of the fabulous costumes. The best ones are always a la the Drag Queens at the far end of the street. You go girls!
