Located on Route 1A between Bangor and Ellsworth, sitting high upon a hill overlooking Phillips Lake, is a white clapboard mansion known as The Lucerne Inn. This majestic structure lures many passerby to stop and take in the breathtaking views. We had passed by many times and when looking for a romantic weekend, this gorgeous Inn simply called to us. The room we were given exuded warmth and romance. A queen size four poster bed was the centerpiece of the room. The bed was directly across from the gas fireplace in the corner. A small settee and pair of wing back chairs were in the opposite corner. A desk and dresser were situated along one of the walls. The whirlpool tub was the perfect way to soak away the cold dreary weather we were experiencing.

Dinner reservations were made for early in the evening. The restaurant is located near the lobby of the Inn with vast windows overlooking the grounds and the lake. Lit only by candle light and the glow of the fireplace, the room was private and charming. The package we selected included a four course dinner; salad, appetizer, main course and dessert. The menu was exquisite offering a wide variety of selections. We dined on teriyaki scallops wrapped in bacon, green salads, filet mignon, baked potatoes, and asparagus. All were prepared beautifully. For dessert, we selected chocolate truffle cake and peanut butter pie. Both were delicious.
