Indian Canyons
I thoroughly enjoyed the Indian Canyons. It's a great place for hiking. Beautiful scenery and interesting sights. Some of the oldest palm trees in the state can be found here. Wildlife can be observed if you are there at the right times of the day.

Quick Tips:

Bring plenty of water or you can purchase water at a small but very nice gift shop. If you are interested in seeing certain sites in the canyons the Indian rangers can be very helpful.

Best Way To Get Around:

Car rental was very reasonable when I was there, so I suggest renting. If you are staying close to downtown you could get by without one. If you are wanting to do day trips you definitely will need one. I found it very easy to get around and after one day had no trouble navigating my way around through Palm Springs, Cathedral City and Palm Desert.

Attraction

Top of mountain
Taking the tram which rotates 360 degrees while you are going to the top is definitely a great way to enjoy the scenery of the valley and the mountain. There can be a 40 degree temperature change from the valley to the top of the mountain. The top of the mountain is similar to the Tahoe area with very old pine trees and large boulders. The tram is definitely a must for a first trip to Palm Springs.
