The Gold Coast

A March 2002 trip to Delray Beach by Hammer54

The Gold Coast of Florida is unlike the rest of the state. Its a mixture of wealth, millon dollar beach front homes, a homogenous mix of old and new, shopping from dollar stores to Beverly Hills type shops, and eating every food imaginable.

Overview

One of the best moments of my time in Del Rey is going to Bostons on the Beach to eat. They have a wonderful upper level deck where you can see A1A, and the beach while you relax to a wonderful portion of Stone Crab, or eat breakfast and watch the beach wake up.

Quick Tips:

Best Way To Get Around:

The best way to get around is walking when you are in any of the towns or beach areas. But a car is a must so you can cruise along A1A and see all the sights. Beachfront cafes and multi millon dollar homes from Del Rey to West Palm. Its one of the most luxurious drives in the USA.

Best Things Nearby:
The beach is across the street and you can sit in front of your room and see the beach from the upper floors.

Best Things About the Resort:
The class of folks staying there is usually very high. Not much noise, especially if you get a unit across the street from the main building.

Resort Experience:
Its right on A1A and across from the beach. So you can get up, go have breakfast at Bostons on the Beach, then walk to the beach. You can rent a cabana and chairs for $15 a day and relax on the beach like you're a movie star!

Dining at Boston's is one of the greatest experiences in Del Rey. You sit on the upper deck, watching A1A, the beach, the waves, the men and women in all sorts of attire, and the world go by below you. Whether you're eating local stone crab or breakfast, it's one of the best dining experiences you will ever enjoy.

Sometime in March or early April, Del Rey Beach has their annual Arts Festival. There you will find local artisans showing their wares of local art and pottery, glass, etc. It's a fun day right on the intercoastal.
