My family and I went camping early in June with our friends. The weather was clear but still quite cold. We went to the southern part of the West Fjords in northern Iceland. The area is rugged and unspoiled, with millions of birds nesting in the cliffs.

We camped in Flokalundur, a small resort with hotel and new campsite. There is a natural hot pool on the beach hidden between rocks that is very nice.

We drove to Látrabjarg bird cliffs, which is the western most point of Europe. The cliffs are the biggest habitat of black guillemot in the world and thousands of puffins also nest there. The view from the edge was amazing.

The bays to the west and east of Látrabjarg have white sand beaches that are very rare in Iceland. We went to these beaches to play and the kids loved it.

The day after we drove to Bildudalur village and continued further west to abandoned valleys like Selárdalur, where Gisli lived on his hermitage with very primitive conditions.

We also looked at the farm of the artist Samuel, which made many art pieces from concrete and rock. He was very enthusiastic but his skills were not great and he hardly didn´t have any tools or material. The pieces are still laying in all around his house.

Finally we drove back home after a very good weekend.

Quick Tips:

Best Way To Get Around:

To get around you have to have your own car or rent a car. It´s better to have four-wheel drive since many of these roads are gravel roads.
